API authorized inspections are formal inspection activities performed in accordance with standards published by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for equipment used in high-risk industrial facilities, primarily oil and gas, with the objective of assessing current condition and maintaining safe operation.

Within this scope, fitness for service, remaining life status, and operating conditions are evaluated, and required maintenance, repair, and monitoring actions are defined.
